I chance upon this book in the library yesterday. Is a small thin book containing short articles by Mr Tan Kong Wee which i find it are easy reads. As the title of the book suggest, it contains his thoughts on living in Singapore since 1930s.
Secondhand book shops- Dried, skeletal, palm sized leaves used as bookmarks were popular then, and when i found them in between pages, i would keep them.
Applying the brakes-In life, we should know when to apply the brakes
Me and my harmonica- Practically every boy owns it, small in size, easily fit in the pocket, thus can be taken every way. Most of us play by ear because we never believe in having notes.
A more gracious way of lie-chivalry is almost non-existent in this fast moving world. Those whom practise it, separate those well bought up from the unrefined.
Singapore of old-for family entertainment, there were 3 worlds namely the "Great World" at Kim Seng road, the "Happy World" in Geylang and the "New World" in Jalan Besar area.
I as a child remember visiting New World at Jalan Besar, is a very run down place and the floor was wet. Is a place full of colourful neon lights and the adults seem to love the place. That is all i remember of this place.
