Life is like building a house

An old builder who is soon to retire was ask by his boss to help him build one last house before he goes as a favour for him. Although the builder agreed, his heart was not in his work and he turned in shoddy workmanship. When he was done, his boss came and gave the key to the front door to him and said that the house was a gift to him. If the builder had known he was building his own house, he would have given his best. The builder had to live with the consequences of his poor effort.

This i cannot agree with the writer. If the builder knew that it was a gift for him before he start work, he would have refuse it or did his best. The statement of having to live with his own poor effort i feel is unfair statement to make. Another thing is that how can u ask him to build the house when it was suppose to be a gift, a gift should be something we get without much effort and it suppose to be a pleasant surprise?

But one thing i agree with the writer is Life is very much like building a house, every phase we live through is akin to a part if the construction. Delivering consistent good work ensures a well built house that you can cherish forever. Why do something when u are going to put in half effort or why doing it when is only worth half of your effort?
